How to lose weight (the healthy way)

Some of you might already be thinking about getting into that prom dress or even that bathing suit when summer rolls along. It never hurts to be proactive, so here are a few tips for losing a couple of those dreaded extra pounds.

1. Start by calculating how many calories you burn daily. You can do so here. The trick is to burn more calories than you take in. At the same time you shouldn’t lose more than 1-2 pounds a week, any more than that is considered unhealthy. You should strive to burn at least 500 calories more than you eat or cut 500 calories somewhere out your diet.

2. Don’t Crash diet or follow any of the “lose weight quick schemes.” The reality behind those diet are that they don’t provide permanent weight loss. You loss the weight quickly only to gain in back in the same manner. If you do go with a specific diet plan, it should allow to take in no more than 1,200 calories and it should have an A to B plan on how plan on how to get to your goal. If it’s too confusing to understand it probably isn’t a good diet plan. Although there are proven diet plans out there, the best are simply homemade.

3. Eat Healthy and stick to a 3 meal regiment. You don’t want to eat a lot of processed or fried foods, and especially NO JUNK FOOD!! It is very important to stick strictly to healthier foods (nothing in a box). What to eat:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetable
  • Poultry
  • Whole Wheat foods
  • Nuts
  • Oats

4. MOST IMPORTANTLY-EXERCISE! It is just as important to gaining weight as it is to losing weight that you need to have an alloted time, at least 30 minutes, set aside strictly for exercise. Some of the best routines you can do are cardiovascular, simply because you burn the most calories when you move around a lot. You can also weight train but it won’t be as effective because, although you burn calories, it is building muscle versus simply burning calories.

How to Gain Weight (the healthy way)

If you’re trying to gain weight but it just seems like no matter what you do you cant, well I’m going to share some info to do so:

1st- Start by calculating how many calories you burn everyday. Here’s a link to do so: http://calorieneedscalculator.com/. The science behind it is that if you’re eating more calories than you burn then you are storing extra calories.

2nd-Eat Healthy. Plain and simple eating the right food is essential to gain weight also. A common misconception is that in order to gain weight you can only down those heavy snacks cakes. Not true. As long as you get your protein and other nutrients you’ll be well on your way to gaining weight. Some of the foods to eat:

  • Poultry-Such as chicken and fish, which will provide your protein
  • Vegetables- No it wasn’t a joke when Popeyes was downing the can of spinach lol
  • Fruits-Excellent source of fibers and other nutrients
  • Protein Shakes- A lot of times these act as meals in between meals when you are on the go

3rd-Set a exercise regiment. You especially want to focus on this because this in conjunction with the steps provided before will allow you to gain muscle instead of fat, thus lowering body mass index. You want to focus more on muscle building and weight training versus cardio, because cardio will simply burn calories rather than build muscle.

4th-Keep at it. Don’t give up!!!!!!!!!!!! The results will come with time. In case you are wondering the weight gain rate is 1-2 pounds per week.
